Green Magic Homes (USA) responds to Australian eco home controversy.

The owners of US-based eco-builder Green Magic Homes (USA) have moved swiftly to investigate an Australian contractor accused of defrauding New South Wales bushfire victims.

The company wants to lend support to the impacted families and also build more capacity in the state to aid in future disaster relief.

Green Magic Homes says it is outraged by the actions of Glenn Stevenson, who has been using the American company’s name, after learning the contractor had taken deposits from families and promised them homes using their patented green modular construction system.

They said Stevenson did not have an agreement with them to launch Green Magic Homes Australia.

Green Magic Homes spokesperson Carlos Taminez said: “The team in the US are committed to social causes and one of their biggest concerns is that people in NSW do not realise we are there to help. We will work with licensed builders in Australia, teach them how to build the product and even provide homes at cost,” he said.
The company said it would take action to train and certify qualified building professionals in NSW so they could use their patented green building technology. Green Magic Homes are earth-covered modules made with cutting-edge polymeric compounds and aerospace technology, requiring training to assemble.

This week, Glenn Stevenson was the subject of a warning to consumers (June 20) by NSW Minister for Fair Trading Eleni Petinos after NSW Fair Trading cancelled his contractor licence.

Green Magic Homes (USA) has written to Minister Petinos expressing its dismay at the situation impacting two NSW families re-building their homes lost to bushfire.

“We are grateful that Minister Petinos identified this issue as we are all focused on protecting and servicing the community. We are stunned by recent events and news reports from Australia. Our hearts go out to each of the victims of apparent fraud perpetrated by Glenn Stevenson,” said Mr Taminez.

“Glenn Stevenson never contracted directly with our entities Green Magic Homes (USA) and GMH Technologies Inc.”

Rather, he became involved with the global brand as a sub-distributor for regional distributors Green Magic Homes Australasia Ltd, led by established New Zealand eco-architect Alex Greig.

“Our concern about the victims of the situation is even more acute due to our personal and institutional passion for and dedication to ecological and social-impact projects.”

“Our founder is Gustavo Santander, a designer and visionary dedicated to directly meeting the global challenges of housing and food security in the era of climate change.”
